Students in Sierra Leone’s east have missed out on career opportunities and further education sponsorship as their exam results are delayed by nearly a year.
67 students – studying at the Eastern Polytechnic in Kenema – took their exams in August 2018. They are still yet to discover their results, on which their scholarship and job offers are dependent.
Even bribing the markers has not yielded results
Students were encouraged to pay markers 250,000SLL (equivalent to $28, or £22) to speed up the process, despite bribery being illegal, but the results were still withheld.
The Sierra Leone Telegraph has blamed corruption, and called for the university to explain to the public why the results are yet to be published after so many months.
