Work gets underway on new student accommodation development

Bristol-based construction and development company Real has started work on the Hollis Building for developer Alumno Group. The £12.6 million project will see the creation of 120 rooms of Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) across four storeys, with bespoke commercial space on the ground floor.

Manchester City Council gave its approval to the revised iQ Student Accommodation-backed scheme last week (27 July) for a 38,350m2 development on Echo Street, Manchester, providing 1,224 student rooms. The 0.49ha site will be made up of three 16, 21 and 27-storey towers with 11 and 15-storey linked buildings close to Manchester Piccadilly station and the North Campus of the University of Manchester.

Constructed in 1973 to a design which resembles the popular rye bread, it closed in 2019 and police relocated to a new station in South Park.
