Watkin Jones has announced the appointment of a new chief financial officer to take over the role in the summer as part of a “managed succession process”.

Plans for a new £55m purpose built student accommodation development in Belfast city centre have been submitted. Property development company South Bank Square has confirmed that it has submitted a planning application for the major purpose-built student accommodation at Fanum House.

Some 493 beds will be provided at University College Dublin (UCD), while 405 and 116 beds will be constructed at Dublin City University (DCU) and Maynooth University respectively.

Plans to demolish a former city centre bank and a bar to build 173 student flats have been recommended for approval next week. Caledon Properties Ltd initially got permission to build a hotel on the site, at the corner of Trongate and Hutcheson Street, but have changed the proposal to student accommodation.

Plans to transform the site of a former Barker & Stonehouse showroom in Newcastle into student accommodation look set for approval. The application relates to a 0.7-acre site on Leazes Park Road which is occupied by the retailer as well as Strawberry House.

Warwick University is predicting student numbers will rise by 2033. It hopes to boost housing on or near campus to the tune of some 1,200 student beds by this point, according to new plans. The schemes would be developed by the university directly or working with private companies.

Plans to tear down a major student housing block at Newcastle University have officially been put before city decision-makers.

The application was submitted to the Leeds City Council in October 2023 and will see the development of a part 8 part 10 storey building just off of Kirkstall Road containing 198 studio flats.

The new build framework will be used to deliver the University’s next five-year investment strategy. It has been divided into four lots that will also cover demolition, refurbishment, decoration and landscaping, up to a total value of £260m.
