Student demand for alcohol has dropped so dramatically that Abertay University, based in Dundee, has closed student bar Bar One.

Takings had fallen two-thirds in five years, as students preferred to opt for coffee at the new campus cafe. The bar will now be used as an events space.

Generation Z have consistently been shown to drink less than millennials

1 in 5 UK students is teetotal, according to the National Union of Students, and alcohol-free events and housing have become popular on many campuses.

This has been attributed to a range of factors, including more students of faith attending university, a greater emphasis on study in light of higher tuition fees, and a cost of living crisis.
