Computer Science students are less likely to complete their course in the subject than any others, according to HESA figures for the UK published by The Tab.
Nearly 1 in 10 students on Computer Science courses fail to complete their degrees, compared to just 1.5% of students enrolled on medical, dentistry or veterinary courses.
Why are CompSci students getting cold feet?
Computer Science is a growing area of study, with the dawn of the Fourth Industrial Revolution creating plenty of job opportunities. However, in a follow-up survey by The Knowledge Academy, the main reasons cited by students for dropping out were insufficient value for money, a lack of practical skills, and not enjoying the course.
Male students – who have historically had higher drop-out rates – outnumber female students in the discipline by more than 5 to 1.
