Specialist development finance lender Atelier announces the completion of a £26.2m gross loan to Torsion Group for the development of a new PBSA scheme.

The joint venture has secured planning permission for a purpose-built student accommodation scheme in Leicestershire. The nearly two-acre site brownfield site, adjacent to the Grand Union Canal Basin, will be transformed into a high-quality nine storey building, containing 541 student bedrooms. The scheme aims to create sustainable, community-orientated accommodation that enhances the PBSA offering in Loughborough.

The three Ministers outlined the detail of the policy, which is a key deliverable under Housing for All, as they viewed plans for 521 beds in Dublin City University and Maynooth University with both to going to construction in the coming months.

The new student accommodation scheme will have 252 beds (in studios and cluster units) on the corner of Matilda Street and Eyre Street in the city centre. The building will come with amenities such as student hubs, cycle storage, laundry, gym, private dining, private study room, outdoor terraces and staff facilities.

Plans for student housing at a site previously earmarked for homes have been recommended for approval. The Vita Group plans with CDA architects and Turley are for student accommodation for 267 at New Waverley North in Edinburgh in place of a previously approved proposal for 90 build to rent homes.

McLaren Property got the go ahead from BCP Council for its scheme on Hinton Road, at the former Westover Garage site. Featured in the approved proposals are 161 bedrooms with 170 bedspaces, in the form of 157 studios and 13 adoptable twodios.

The approved proposal will create modern, high-quality, purpose-built student accommodation on the Fallowfield campus. It forms part of a phased redevelopment to increase the supply of modern bedrooms and student socialising spaces to provide a supportive residential experience.

Aviva Investors, the global asset management business of Aviva plc, announces it has acquired a portfolio of six PBSA assets and a mixed-use commercial property as part of a £150m investment into the student accommodation sector.

GMI Construction Group has broken ground on a £50m student accommodation scheme on the site of a former York cinema and bingo hall. Spanning 80,000 sq. feet, the four-storey building in the Fulford area will provide 275 beds alongside an array of modern amenities, including a gym, yoga studio, games room, co-working spaces, group dining areas, integrated cycle parking, and landscaped courtyards.

Ashling Fox, MBA, CMgr FCMI. has been appointed Managing Director for Student Roost, bringing to the role more than 20 years of experience from the housing and financial sectors. Managing director will lead 26,000-bed student accommodation provider on behalf of GIC and Greystar.
