A planning inspector allowed an appeal today against the refusal of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets for a student accommodation scheme in Mile End, London. The scheme includes 106 bedroom units of purpose-built student housing accommodation (PBSA), and commercial space at the ground floor level.

UXCO Group has successfully completed a record €300 million refinancing deal for three of its Ecla student housing and co-living properties, located in Villejuif, Noisy-le-Grand, and Palaiseau in the greater Paris region. These assets represent a total area of nearly 100,000 square meters and 3,800 beds.

The Tailwind Group has acquired Reserve on West 31st, a 192-unit, 720-bed student housing community in Lawrence, Kan. Arizona State Retirement System previously owned the asset serving the University of Kansas, according to Yardi Matrix information.

Edinburgh locals have raised their concerns over plans to extend a student accommodation site. Plans to extend the Shrubhill House student accommodation, just off Leith Walk at 8 Middlefield, have been submitted to Edinburgh Council after previous plans to adapt the site were refused in 2023 in relation to daylighting.

Global property consultancy Knight Frank has facilitated the £28.75m sale of a PBSA asset in Newcastle. Situated in the heart of the city’s vibrant Quayside area, the Newcastle PBSA property is an institutional-grade scheme comprising 416 beds.

Mapletree Investments has sold The Cottages of Boone, an 894-bed student housing community two miles from Appalachian State, in Boone, N.C. Timberline Real Estate Ventures acquired the asset for $91 million and took out a $79.4 million loan originated by Walton Street Capital.

A high profile student development in the heart of Limerick City, which had been tied up in delays because of appeals, has been granted planning permission by An Bord Pleanála.

The Travelodge Resort Darwin at 64 Cavenagh Street in Darwin City comprises 224 rooms, including 32 townhouses, and resort amenities that include five swimming pools, the Treetops Restaurant, conference and events facilities, gymnasium, sun deck and barbecue area, and 115 carparking spaces. The building has the potential to convert to student accommodation.

Student accommodation developer Fusion Students has submitted a full planning application to redevelop a prominent site in Cardiff into a student accommodation scheme of more than 700 beds. The proposed site at Longcross Court, on 47 Newport Road, is close to the city centre and currently occupied by a red-brick building.

Plans have been approved for a 454-bedroom Bristol PBSA development. It is just 300 metres from the University of Bristol’s £500M Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus. The new Bristol PBSA scheme will help to alleviate the lack of appropriate student accommodation in the South West city.
