The transformation of South Shields town centre is a step closer after designs for a state-of-the-art college campus were submitted. Planning permission is being sought for a 14,000 sq ft main building, refurbishment of a listed building plus a 140-bed student accommodation block.

Contentious plans for a 205-bed student accommodation development in Cork city have been given the go- ahead despite a number of objections and appeals to An Bord Pleanála.

A 36-storey tower block for students could be built between the O2 and North Greenwich tube station if developers get backing from Greenwich Council. Plans have been submitted by Crosstree, a property company which has a half-share in the O2, for an 120-metre tower with 820 bedrooms for students.

Having stood vacant on 30 Constitution Road since 2003, the building’s revival is now a step closer with the submission of a change-of-use application, steered by HTC Architects.

The fast-track project for the refurbishment of three blocks of student accommodation includes new kitchen and bathroom facilities, M&E installations including upgraded energy efficient heating, door refurbishment, floor, wall and ceiling finishes and furniture.

HG Living has exchanged contracts with a Singapore-headquartered investment group to forward fund a 350-bed student accommodation scheme on the doorstep of Newcastle's Helix quarter. HG Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the project.

Developer Watkin Jones has practically completed a 286-bed PBSA scheme in Colchester, Essex. The Hawkins Road scheme is spread over a 92,000 sq ft area and was delivered on behalf of its clients, Moorfield Group and Melberry Developments, providing a mix of cluster and studio rooms across nine floors.

Future Generation, the joint venture between developer Southern Grove and Tadhamon Capital, has completed the £133m refinancing of three of its purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) assets ahead of plans to sell its entire five-strong PBSA portfolio for £300m-plus.

The proposed Devonshire Place development is expected to cost around £200m to build with the site located opposite the planned new Bakerloo Line station in the London Borough of Southwark.
