A vacant 1970s office building at Blythswood Square, Glasgow, is to be swept aside for the city's latest purpose-built student accommodation block.

Fusion Student has selected the contractor to deliver its 509-bedroom Deansgate scheme. Domis has this week begun groundwork on the 28-storey Manchester student development. Completion of the £56m build is scheduled for summer 2026.

Entry in to the PBSA market stems from the current shortage of student housing across the UK, alongside the existing experience that has been built by the Bank’s development finance team in the sector, leading to a healthy pipeline of PBSA deals.

Plans have been lodged for the final phase of a major Leeds city centre development with hundreds of student apartments proposed. Caddick Group has submitted a full planning application to Leeds City Council for Block A at the SOYO development.
