A former engineering works and foundry site in Bristol looks set to be redeveloped into a scheme of almost 500 student bed spaces, with approval lined up.

Vita are proposing nearly 600 student bedrooms plus 20 affordable rental flats for a vacant site at 20 India Street. “Vita will develop, own and operate the student housing element of this proposal bringing increased residential density to the area and an improved public realm to the surrounding streets."

Maven Property (Nottingham) has been given the go-ahead by the city council to transform the tired-looking 191-195 Lower Parliament Street by adding up to three storeys to the existing two-floor building. The move, says the developer, will create a scheme that will retain the ground floor retail units at the site while adding 104 student bedspaces on the upper floors.

One of the REIT’s sponsors, Sunway RE Capital, owns a portfolio of five PBSA assets in four UK cities. In an April 15 statement, the REIT manager says it will tap this sponsor’s expertise in the sector.

Plans to build a 28-storey student accommodation building in Cardiff city centre have been given the go-ahead. Cardiff Council’s planning committee voted unanimously in favour of approving the building, which will include commercial floorspace on the ground floor and a roof terrace on the 11th floor.
