Representatives from Northern Ireland’s two universities have told Belfast Council that there is a big move from private HMO’s to purpose built student accommodation blocks.

The development at Punches Cross includes 30 build-to-rent apartments and 326 student-bed spaces. Planners said the proposals would “help to alleviate some degree of pressure on those seeking student accommodation”.

Industry leading development and operating platform Vita Group has sold Vita Student Lewisham Exchange, its flagship London modular purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme to AXA IM Alts, a global leader in alternative investments with c. €184bn of assets under management. 

Plans for up to 160 homes and student accommodation on the site of a former Fife secondary school have been approved. Councillors unanimously agreed the application for a mixed-use development at the Kilrymont Road site, previously occupied by Madras College.

Far East Orchard has acquired a 180-bed freehold student accommodation property in the UK for GBP13.9 million ($22.9 million). The sale and purchase agreement (SPA) was entered into by Far East Orchard’s wholly-owned subsidiary, IUKSeven, and Empiric Limited on Dec 8.

The property will be developed, managed, and operated by CA’s in-house PBSA management company, Novel Student.

The scheme will see the construction of 97 student rooms in clusters of 2 to 5 rooms over seven storeys, with the eighth storey set to provide a communal living space and a roof terrace. UTB is providing £9.

Caledon Property Group hopes to knock down the disused commercial buildings on the corner of Hutcheson Street and Trongate, and replace them with a 173-bed study housing facility, reGlasgow reports.

PLANS to demolish Gleneany House in Letterkenny to make way for a major multi-use development would be a “huge boost” to the town, according to a local councillor.
