City Developments Limited (CDL) has acquired five high-quality purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) assets for GBP215 million ($357 million), adding to its existing student accommodation portfolio in the UK.

Developers are bulldozing the vacant Reno Valley Retirement Center east of UNR. The project taking its place will cater to new tenants - students, instead of seniors. The developer, 'Up Campus,' has plans for a five-story building with over 600 rooms for students.

Plans to transform a former hotel on Sauchiehall Street into student accommodation has been given the go-ahead despite concerns of there already being too many in the area.

As Cal State Fullerton continues to renovate and repair older structures, new housing is planned for the next phase of construction to accommodate more students.  The first student housing units on campus were built in 1988 and will be demolished after years of maintenance and safety issues.

The London Borough of Redbridge has unanimously approved plans for a mixed-use scheme in Ilford, East London. Designed by HTA for client Telford Homes, the scheme will deliver 837 new homes and 447 new student bedrooms, all supported by what will be the largest piece of greened public realm in Ilford and activated at ground level by new retail, workspace and leisure spaces.

ANN ARBOR – The University of Michigan has announced plans to develop a new, 2,300-bed residence hall for first-year students. It will be the first time the university will build a freshman dorm on central campus in decades.

After less than two months of closing on a $12.65 million purchase of apartment complexes, Florida A&M University is continuing to expand its footprint by acquiring Citivue Apartments at Railroad Square, which would add 116 more beds to FAMU.

Amber Infrastructure has entered the New Zealand market for the first time, acquiring five assets from Morrison & Co on behalf of International Public Partnerships (INPP).

Representatives from Northern Ireland’s two universities have told Belfast Council that there is a big move from private HMO’s to purpose built student accommodation blocks.

The development at Punches Cross includes 30 build-to-rent apartments and 326 student-bed spaces. Planners said the proposals would “help to alleviate some degree of pressure on those seeking student accommodation”.
