The UK boasts the third-largest contingent of international students in the world, behind only the United States and Australia. But leaving home and studying up to thousands of miles away can be hard to adjust to, especially when you’re used to different cultural or political norms to those in the UK.

Michael MacBean, Head of Counselling and Wellbeing at the University of Leicester, outlines some of the difficulties faced by international students in the UK, and how staff across the university can ensure that these students are supported and able to achieve to the best of their potential.
