Balfour Beatty has started construction of the West Slope Residences, a new student accommodation project, for the University of Sussex, having achieved financial close in December 2023. Balfour Beatty Investments will invest equity of £32m, representing 81% of the £39.5m project equity, with the University of Sussex acting as a co-investor providing the remaining 19%.

Greystar was selected, along with the development firm’s nonprofit partner, Provident Resources Group, by the University of Washington’s Board of Regents to lease four University-owned student housing properties.

Plans for more student accommodation in Dundee have been approved by councillors despite a raft of objections. The proposal for a five-storey building of 98 studio apartments on Douglas Street was unanimously backed by councillors at a planning committee meeting on Monday.

Subsidiary of Trinova Real Estate – Tribell – has acquired the Kirby Street Residence, a PBSA scheme in London on behalf of STARS REI. The seller LUCKY DELTA is a Hong Kong based consortium and CBRE acted on behalf of the company. Kirby St Residence comprises 128 large studio rooms.

EQT Exeter announces first investment in the French residential student market with the acquisition of two student-housing assets totalling 430 studio units. The two assets are on-track to be completed in 2025 and will offer best-in-class amenities including study areas, gyms, co-working spaces and roof terraces as well as excellent sustainability credentials which will set a new benchmark for product quality.

Dutch universities will take measures to limit the influx of foreign students and improve proficiency in the Dutch language among both students and staff. Fourteen higher education institutions have agreed upon these steps.

Amber, which provides a marketplace for students to book long-term housing, plans to use the capital to expand globally and enhance its offerings for property managers and students. The University of Barcelona has signed a deal for its Bellvitge Medicine and Health Sciences Campus housing PPP. Under the deal, Equitix will own an 80% stake in the project, with CyO Group owning the remainder.
