Utrecht wil de komende jaren meer studentenwoningen realiseren om aan de vraag van studenten te voldoen. Samen met studentenhuisvester SSH zet de stad vooral in op het bouwen van studentenkamers, waarbij bewoners gemeenschappelijke ruimtes zoals een woonkamer delen met huisgenoten.
