Global property player Lendlease’s race to refocus its efforts on Australia has been given a handy boost, as it wins approval for a $1.7 billion project in central Melbourne involving rental housing, student accommodation and office space.

Queen’s University Belfast and software group Kainos have submitted planning applications for student accommodation and a new office block at the site of the former Movie House cinema in the city.

Plans to replace an Edinburgh bingo hall with hundreds of student rooms have been submitted to Edinburgh Council. The plans would see 201 student rooms created, and would "regenerate" the area - which sits just off Leith Walk. Developers hope to embrace the "unique character" of the structure.
