Sierra College Opens 358-Bed Student Housing to Enhance Campus Life and Affordability

Summary:

  • Sierra College has opened a new 358-bed student housing facility on its Rocklin campus, more than doubling its on-campus housing capacity from 120 to 358 beds. The project, funded by $80.5 million from the State of California and $27 million from the college, aims to provide affordable housing primarily for economically disadvantaged students starting in Spring 2026.
  • The majority of units (269) will be offered at rents capped at 30% of 50% of the Area Median Income, with monthly room and board priced at $823 for eligible students, addressing housing insecurity for over 63% of Sierra College’s student body who face economic challenges. Market-rate beds (89) will be available at $1,242 per month.
  • The Sierra College Foundation’s “Endow-A-Bed” program has raised over $2 million to permanently provide free room and board for students with the greatest financial need, including one bed reserved for a military veteran. The program aims to endow 10 beds in total, supporting student stability and success.
