Gurrowa Place Secures Final Federal Heritage Approval

Summary:

  • Federal heritage approval has been granted for Gurrowa Place, a $1.7 billion mixed-use development at the southern edge of Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Market, led by the City of Melbourne in partnership with Lendlease and Scape. The project includes two apartment towers, a student accommodation tower, and a civic building across a 3.2-hectare site near the CBD.
  • Gurrowa Place will deliver approximately 1,150 student residences, over 2,200 build-to-rent apartments including more than 130 affordable homes, and a 1.8-hectare public park named Market Square. The development also features heritage restoration of Franklin Street stores and new basement parking with 220 spaces.
  • The project is positioned to address Melbourne’s housing shortage while preserving the heritage and accessibility of the Queen Victoria Market precinct. Construction is expected to begin next year, progressing through multiple stages following final permits and approvals.
